The Mentor Self-Assessment is for use by mentors, supervisors and managers to enhance their ability to help others develop greater insight, identify needed knowledge and expand skills. The questions promote reflection about how important are certain behaviors and how well one demonstrates those behaviors in a mentoring/managing/supervising relationship.

Use the Self-Assessment:
In conjunction with mentor skills training: Assess the results to set new agendas for your self-improvement as a mentor.
To review your mentoring skills with your supervisor: You can share how the assessment has increased your awareness of key mentoring issues and solicit his/her feedback.
To review your assessment with your direct reports or mentees: You and they will benefit from discussing what you are doing well and what you can do better as a mentor.
We recommend that after mentoring for a number of months, you complete a second assessment in order to evaluate progress. We further suggest that you ask your mentees for input about your self evaluation. |
